• VFX Project: SAITmanji

    Overview

From a video project I did for my Rich Media Communications class titled ‘SAITmanji’ (a play on the name ‘Jumanji.’) The goal of the project was to integrate some compositing effects and animation over video. In this case, I’ve used the PVM 3D model I built from a previous assignment to create 3D models in Cinema 4D. I rendered it in the correct angles and focal lengths through Cinema 4D, and added some effects to it using Adobe after Effects in order to increase the realism by using green screen and masking techniques.

This is an edited down version of the full video, which focuses more on the effects that I was responsible for implementing. You can click the button below to view the full version of the video via Vimeo.

This was a group project which I contributed to in the following areas:

    • Video & Audio Editing: I edited the bulk of the footage for the final video, including work on audio to create the most cohesive outcome for the final product.
    • Visual Effects: The 3D object for the monitor used in the video was created by me from a previous project and utilized in this one.
    • Creation of CRT Filter/Effect: The effect seen on the screen of the monitor was created by me within After Effects to achieve a more realistic look for the CRT screen featured in the video.
    • Creation of KO and Health Bar Graphics & Animations: I took responsibility to create some heads-up display (HUD) elements that mimicked the look of a 2D fighting game, along with animating them accordingly.
    • Acting: I was featured as one of the main characters in the video.
    • Voiceover: I recorded some small voiceover segments to add to the effectiveness of the video. These included the grunts and lines heard during the fighting segment, and the K.O. soundbite. These clips had various effects and layering added to them to make them sound more in line with what you would be hearing in the game coming from a small, vintage monitor.
